Per Theater Chart: L'Amour's In Love With Top Spot

May 17, 2011

L'Amour Fou was the only film to top the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart, earning first place with an average of $18,625 in two theaters. The number two film on the overall box office chart, Bridesmaids, did at least come relatively close with an average of $8,995.

The next best new limited release was The First Grader at just over $20,000 in three theaters for an average of $6,812. City of Life and Death earned $5,610 over the weekend and $7,947 since Wednesday in one theater. How to Live Forever likely won't have a long run in theaters after opening with $3,716 in one theater. Everything Must Go was right behind with $3,632, which is not bad for a film opening in more than 200 theaters, but that's not enough to assume it will expand. Likewise, Hesher opened in too many theaters for a limited release and that likely hurt it, as it opened with an average of $3,001. Skateland and The Topp Twins were neck-and-neck at $2,627 and $2,506 respectively.

Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff just missed the Mendoza Line with $1,998 in one theater. At least it was really, really close, as was Hey, Boo! Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird, which managed an average of $1,819 in three theaters. On the other hand, Go For It clearly overreached with an average of just $549 in just over 200 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • I Am got to $1 million very early in the weekend, but that's as far as it will go, unless something weird happens.
  • Cave of Forgotten Dreams also made it to $1 million, but its chances of breaking further milestones is practically 100%.
  • The Conspirator and Jane Eyre both reached $10 million since this time last weekend, but that's the last milestone either film will get to.
