DVD Sales: Captain Fights His Way to First Place

November 8, 2011

The DVD sales chart returned to normal, at least what passes for normal as we witness the decline of DVD sales. There were not a lot of new releases to chart, but at least the best of them was able to move a lot of units. Captain America: The First Avenger was dominant earning first place with 726,000 units / $12.56 million. Winnie the Pooh was well back in second place with 191,000 units / $3.39 million during its first week on the home market. I was hoping its reviews would help it rebound on the home market. Green Lantern slipped a spot to third with 128,000 units / $1.92 million over the week, for a total of 667,000 units / $10.04 million after three. Bad Teacher fell from first to fourth with 111,000 units / $2.00 million over the week giving it a total of 372,000 units / $6.63 million after two. Horrible Bosses earned fifth place with 105,000 units / $1.57 million over the week and 684,000 units / $10.74 million after three.

Wrong Turn 4 took in $733,000 from 48,000 units sold, giving it 13th place for the week. That was the only other new release of the week to reach the top 30.
