Valentino has Designs on the Per Theater Chart

March 24, 2009

Valentino: The Last Emperor topped the per theater chart with $21,762 in one theater over the weekend and $33,170 since Wednesday. Hunger returned to theaters and scored $13,838 in its lone theater, which was just a tiny margin ahead of Sin Nombre's weekend of $13,574. Sunshine Cleaning expanded from 4 theaters to 64, but still finished in the $10,000 club with an average of $10,494.

The New Twenty was the best of the rest of the new releases with an opening haul of $6,272 in one theater. Mancora earned a little more, but in two theaters, giving it an average of $3,838. The Great Buck Howard barely surpassed the Mendoza Line with $2,091, but the VoD release obviously had some effect. Rounding things out was Super Capers, which did worse than expected with barely more than $21,000 in 80 theaters for an average of $268.

There were no real milestones, but Slumdog Millionaire did climb into 16th place on the yearly chart with $137,178,177 at the end of the weekend. It is now just ahead of The Incredible Hulk, while it is not that far behind Prince Caspian.
