DVD Rentals - Rental Chart Does Not Stand Still

April 22, 2009

There were six new releases to chart this week, but three of the top four were holdovers. That one new release was The Day the Earth Stood Still, which earned 50% more than last week's number one film, Marley and Me. Seven Pounds and Slumdog Millionaire were in a close battle for third place. Yes Man rounded out the top five, just ahead of was Bedtime Stories.

The Tale of Despareaux opened in eighth place. Not Easily Broken just missed the top ten landing in 11th place and the final new release to chart was Doubt in 13th place.

The winner streak on the rental charts ended with total revenue down to $151.1 million, which was 5.4% lower than last week and 8.1% lower than the same weekend last year.
