Not the Only One on the Per Theater Chart

August 26, 2009

My One and Only opened on top of the per theater chart with an average of $14,673 in four theaters. This is a better start than expected for the film. The only other member of the $10,000 club was the overall box office champion, Inglourious Basterds, which opened with an average of $12,024.

The other new releases were all over the map in terms of per theater averages with Five Minutes of Heaven earning $5,364 in one theater. World's Greatest Dad opened with $4,675, also in one theater, which is not as bad as expected. Casi Divas failed to capture an audience with an average of just $1,250. However, that was miles ahead of both The Marc Pease Experience ($264) and Sikandar ($217).

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Kaminey did reach $1 million as expected, but also as expected, it has almost no shot at $2 million.
  • (500) Days of Summer topped $20 million early in the weekend and it by now it is already halfway to $25 million. I wouldn't dismiss the chances of the film reaching $30 million.
