Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of May 30, 2008

May 31, 2008

There were three sites on this week's list that caught my eye. These included a site with more extras than regular features, a site with an interactive experience, and a site with a DVD quality featurette. However, each site failed to live up to the level needed to be an award worthy site.

Bigger, Stronger, Faster* - Official Site
I was hoping this site would have more style than most documentary sites due to the more relaxed and engaging style of the movie. However, it's rather static and lacks flash. Disappointing.

The Foot Fist Way - Official Site
There are two sites, one for general audiences and the other that is restricted. Since I don't have a valid American identification, which is not surprising since I'm not American, I can only review the general site. Many sites for limited releases have not enough style to emphasize the substance. This site is the opposite and it has almost none of the regular features but plenty of extras. These extras include little bits like the soundboard, The Tenets of Tawkwondo, Dojo Calendar, and others. I'm not entirely sure as well it sells the movie and there's no way for me to know how well it complements the restricted half of the site, but it is better than most.

Savage Grace - No Official Site
Can't review what doesn't exist.

Sex and the City - Official Site
All of the usual features are here (synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer), while there are plenty of extras (in the form of video clips), as well as lots of style. The extras consist of four clips from the movie and a 4-minute featurette on the fashion in the movie. I expect to find the fashion featurette on the DVD when it comes out. Add in the background music and it is better than most, but not up to the level of an award worthy site.

The Strangers - Official Site
The site certainly sets the mood very well and has all of the usual information, plus an interactive Experience section. While I like the interactive feel of this part of the site, it took forever to load and when it did load it was choppy. The site was a contender for the Weekly Website Award, but the load issues were severe enough to prevent that from happening.

Stuck - No Official Site
Nothing to review.

The Unknown Woman - Official Site
Just the basics without any sound or animation outside the trailer. Also, the bios are just one big block of text, and I hate it when they do that. Overall, there's nothing that makes it stand out.
