King Kong Opens in 3,568 Theaters in US, 10,000 Worldwide

December 14, 2005

Universal launches King Kong today (Wednesday) in 3,568 theaters across the US and Canada. In total, it will be playing on about 7,500 screens. That's their second-biggest opening ever, after Hulk's debut in 3,648 venues back in 2003. Based on reviews and early buzz, it's fair to say that the studio is expecting a better result this time.

Kong also goes day-and-date worldwide today, rolling out the monster movie in over 6,000 theaters in 55 countries.

With a three hour running time restricting the total number of screenings, the movie is unlikely to break daily records, but it'll be vying for a record December opening, and Universal will be hoping that it dominates the Christmas season.
