Movie Websites Launches for January 16 - January 22

January 22, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of new releases, updated sites, and some upcoming releases that slipped through the cracks, including the winner for the week Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! - Official Site . If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

The Butterfly Effect
Current Content: This site works hard at creating the right atmosphere. But I don't think it quite has it. The best part is still Confronting Chaos, which deals with the real life science behind the Butterfly Effect..

Dirt
Current Content: One of the best parts of this job is learning about smaller movies that I'd otherwise probably never hear about. Dirt is one of them, The website is unchanged since I first reviewed it, which was when I thought it was going to be released.

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights
Current Content: The section Dance was added to Lead. It talks about different Latin dances including giving dance steps. There's also a Dance section in Follow, but it is still marked coming soon, so I assume they'll be different.

Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed
Current Content: The flash site launched, but most of the content is still marked coming soon. There is the synopsis, two trailers (a Canadian version and an International version), poster and a few images (with more to be added later.) There's even a surprise or two if you stick around and look closely enough. The rest, (cast and crew bios, links, production and wallpaper) are all marked coming soon.

The Girl Next Door
Current Content: The placeholder site launched and on it you'll find the synopsis, cast and crew (no bios) the trailer, a dozen images and 4 wallpapers. That's quite a bit a content for just a placeholder site.

Miracle
Current Content: Hockey 101 was added to the site. And without a fanatical hockey fan base, like we have up here in Canada, many Americans might need to read it before watching the movie. On a side note, I really like that hockey player on the site. The one that skates back and forth depending on where you cursor is. It's a nice touch.

The Reckoning
Current Content: There was a change in the format of the placeholder site. During this redesign the trailer was added, but the short synopsis was removed.

Saved!
Current Content: The placeholder site was redesigned and a short synopsis was added.

Starsky and Hutch
Current Content: The flash site launched this week and it definitely has style. So far three of the five sections are up. The Evidence has the trailer, clips and photos. The Drop has downloadables like wallpaper and icon. And The Good has games, but half of them, like the Pinball game is marked coming soon. The site also has background music, but it’s a little too 70s for me.

Touching the Void
Current Content: Typical IFC movie site. Format is functional, but not stylish.

Twisted
Current Content: Just the placeholder site with the synopsis, trailer and a photo gallery.

Van Helsing
Current Content: This movie was on the very first Weekly Website Review, and for the longest time it's been the same. But now we have the first update in nearly a year. The trailer was added to the site. Ok, it's not a huge update, but at least it's something.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton
Current Content: There was quite a large update just in time for tomorrow's release. The site now has all the regular features like synopsis, cast and crew bios and a few more unique features like character bios. There are also multimedia features like the trailer, behind the scenes, a parody of entertainment magazine shows called Hollywood Scoop, two interviews and three clips, (Guard your carnal treasure!) There's three special features that need mentioning: a quiz to help find out who your big-screen boyfriend it, the Tad Hamilton fansite and for those of us who are not Tad fans, Bad Dat!, a whack-a-mole style game. There's no background music, but on a separate site you can listen to 30-second clips of the all the songs on the soundtrack. The biggest complaint I have is with the cast and crew bios; they are divided up into just two sections, one for the cast and one for the crew. So if you want to read one particular bio you have to scroll through all the ones before it. But that is just a minor concern and not enough to stop it from winning the triumphant Weekly Website Award.
