Return of King Opening Day: $34 million

The latest news from New Line is that Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King grossed an amazing $34 million on its opening day (including $8 million in midnight shows).

We'll have the full chart shortly, but right now, it looks like RotK will be comfortably the biggest ever Wednesday opener, record the 3rd biggest opening day ever, and score the 6th biggest single day of all time.
