Last Jedi Boxes the Competition into a Corner with $28.3 million

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Boxing Day box office was impressive, as it grew 3% to $28.3 million for a 12-day total of $423.93 million. This is the second biggest domestic box office of the year, behind Beauty and the Beast and ahead of Wonder Woman. The misalignment in holidays means we still can’t really compare this result to either The Force Awakens or Rogue One, but that changes tomorrow.

Internationally, The Last Jedi bounced back with $24.2 million for totals of $420.2 million internationally and $844.2 million worldwide. The single biggest market of the day was France at $3.5 million, while both the U.K. and Germany pulled in $3.0 million. The U.K. remains the biggest market with $70.9 million, however, the film opens in China next Friday, so the U.K.’s spot on top won’t last for that much longer. The film climbed into tenth place on the 2017 international chart, just ahead of Wonder Woman. Meanwhile, it is in 8th place on the worldwide chart, just behind Thor: Ragnarok.
