Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi finished its second week at the box office with $19.4 million on Thursday giving it a total of $464.6 million after two weeks of release. By comparison, The Force Awakens earned $22.93 million for a total of $651.97 million, while Rogue One managed $16.72 million during this day in its run for a running tally of $375.38 million. If we used these two results as guides, then The Last Jedi is on pace for $650 million to $700 million. The film is still in second place on the 2017 domestic chart, but it won’t be there for long, as it is about two days away from overtaking Beauty and the Beast for top spot.

Internationally, The Last Jedi was just as impressive earning $22.7 million, lifting its international running tally to $469.6 million, while it has earned $934.2 million worldwide. The film is rapidly closing in on $100 million in the U.K., where it has $80.6 million, including $4.9 million on Thursday. Germany was close behind with $4.4 million over the day, while its running tally is $54.3 million. As expected, the film remained in tenth place on the 2017 international chart, but it should be in eighth place by this time tomorrow. There is still a roughly $100 million gap between The Last Jedi and Despicable Me 3 on the 2017 worldwide chart. It will top that film by the end of the weekend, while it has its sights on Beauty and the Beast and first place. It might even get there before it opens in China on the 5th of January.

On a side note, the three Star Wars movies released by Disney have brought in more at the worldwide box office than Disney paid for Lucasfilm. If you add in home market numbers, merchandising, etc., Disney might have already earned back the entire $4.05 billion price tag. If not, it will likely get there by the time Episode IX is done.
