Theater Averages: Avengers Goes to the Dogs

May 3, 2018

Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War had the weekend’s best theater average at $57,599. However, this isn’t the best theater average of the year, as Isle of Dogs opened with an average of $60,011. Disobedience was close behind with an average of $47,479 in five theaters. The final film in the $10,000 club was Let the Sunshine In with an average of $19,850 in two theaters.

There were not many other new limited releases and none of them really came close to the $10,000 mark. Cold Water was the best of the rest with an opening of $5,110 in its lone theater. Jet Trash was about halfway behind with an average of $2,457 in two theaters. Duck Butter missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,399, again in two theaters. Meanwhile, Kings bombed even harder with an average of $763 in 214 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool got to $1 million a week ago. (The studio released the numbers late.)
  • Finding Your Feet got to $1 million, but its theater average is low enough that it won’t get to $2 million.
  • Beirut got to $4 million early last week, but it likely won’t get to $5 million.
  • As expecterd, Isle of Dogs hit $25 million before the weekend and has a shot at $30 million.
