Limited and VOD Releases: See an Old New Release this Weekend

December 20, 2019

Agnès Varda

The massive competition has led to very few limited releases this week and most of what we do get are re-releases of Agnès Varda. Not that I’m complaining about that. Her films are not the only limited releases of the week; they are not even the only limited re-releases of the week. However, I think her retrospective is the most intriguing option of the week.

Agnès Varda Retrospective
Le Bonheur - Reviews
Cleo From 5 to 7 - Reviews
Lions Love - Reviews
Mur Murs - Reviews
La Pointe-Courte - Reviews
There’s an Agnès Varda retrospective happening at the Lincoln Center in New York City starting today and going on till the first week of January. You can check out their calendar to see which movies are playing when.

Dabangg 3 - Reviews
This is the third film in the Dabangg franchise. The first two films were box office hits, both here in limited release, and in their native India, and I suspect this one will be no different.

Don’t Be a D*ck About It - Reviews
A film about two brothers who love each other, but still have the ability to get on each other’s nerves. There are only five reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but all five of them are positive. The film will likely fail to find an audience in theaters, but it does deserve to be seen.

The Europeans - Reviews
This is one of James Ivory’s first films and it is getting a re-release on its 40th anniversary. It’s not among the best films from the director, but it is still worth checking out, especially for fans of period dramas.

Invisible Life - Reviews
Two sisters are separated when one of them becomes pregnant and is disowned by their conservative father. The film’s reviews are excellent and the film could find an audience in art house theaters.

Only Cloud Knows - Reviews
A Chinese film about a recent widower, who decides to retrace the life he and his wife had. There are only three reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but all three of them are positive. Also, Chinese films rarely get a lot of reviews before they come out, so this is not uncommon.

Secondary VOD Releases:
Lost Holiday - Reviews - Video on Demand
She’s Missing - Reviews - Video on Demand
Both of the secondary VOD releases this week are earning reviews that are mixed, but not so bad that they are not entirely worth a rental.
