Per Theater Chart: Italian Cuisine

August 19, 2014

The Trip to Italy poster

The Trip to Italy led the way on the per theater chart with an average of $26,841 in three theaters during its opening weekend. The Admiral: Roaring Currents earned an average of $17,517 in 30 theaters during its second weekend of release. By this time next week, it will be at over $1 million in total. Frank was the final member of the $10,000 club with an opening of $16,056 in its lone theater.

There were several other new limited releases, but not many did well. Life After Beth opened with an average of $7,922 in two theaters. Jealousy was next with an opening of $5,533 in one theater. Singham Returns was right behind with an average of $5,150 in 127 theaters. Fort McCoy was not as lucky barely avoiding the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,035 in two theaters. Jake Squared was well back with an average of $168 in ten theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for several Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • What If expanded to nearly 800 theaters hitting $1 million over the weekend. It's per theater is barely above $1,000, so clearly it expanded too quickly and will collapse very soon. That said, $2 million is still a reasonable goal.
  • Obvious Child hit $3 million over the weekend. That's as far as it will go, but that is still good for a limited release.
  • Magic in the Moonlight reached $3 million and $4 million over the weekend and should top $5 million before next weekend begins.
