Budget
The production budget for Watchmen has been quoted as $120 million or $130 million in numerous publication (see, for example, New York Times, 1/30/2009). Director Zack Snyder has disputed the figure of $130 million (Hollywood Reporter, 3/31/2009, p. 6), saying, "We spent way less than that. There was already $10 million spent before we got the movie on (development). What we got to work with is a different thing." Our budget figure assumes that $110 million was spent on production, and an additional $10 million was spent pre-development (presumably on acquiring rights and related activities).
Synopsis
In an alternate 1985 where superheroes exist, tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union are at an all time high. The vigilante Rorschach is investigating the murder of the Comedian, and uncovers a plot to discredit and murder various heroes. Rorschach discovers a far wider ranging conspiracy involving his colleagues' past and which could completely change the course of history.
