Theater Averages: Dory Finds Her Way to the Top with $31,373

June 21st, 2016

Finding Dory

Finding Dory not only earned first place on the weekend box office chart, but it also earned first place on the theater average chart with $31,373 per theater. Homeless Billionaire was next with $19,771 in its lone theater. Tickled earned an average of $10,949 in two theaters. Meanwhile, Central Intelligence was right behind with an average of $10,130.

There was only one other new limited release that did well. Seoul Searching opened with $8,966 in its lone theater. Gentleman opened okay, for a Bollywood film, earning an average of $4,252 in over 100 theaters. Cosmos struggled with $3,807 in its lone theater. My Love Don't Cross That River earned an average of $3,170 in two theaters. Serial Killer 1 and Argentina were both playing in just one theater each, earning $2,659 and $2,274 respectively.

Like last week, there were so many new limited releases that missed the Mendoza Line ($2,000), we need to separate them. The Last King was the best of this group earning an average of $1,533 in three theaters. Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made was next with an average of $1,086 in 24 theaters. Range 15 was right behind with $1,044 in one theater. Golden Kingdom only managed $554, also in one theater. Finally there's Clown, which earned an average of $269 in 100 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for many Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Dough has been in theaters for four months, but it only just reached $1 million since this time last week.
  • Weiner hit $1 million over the weekend. It has a slim chance at getting to $2 million, but even if it doesn't get there, this is still good for a documentary.
  • Sing Street did get to $3 million, but that's as far as it will go.
  • The Meddler got to $4 million over the weekend, but it too will go no further.
  • Love and Friendship topped $10 million just before the weekend and it is now ahead of The Darkness, among other wide releases.
