December 12, 2018

A Star is Born

The Screen Actors Guild were the third group to announce their nominations for this awards season. There’s not a lot of surprises on this week’s list. A Star is Born led the way with four nominations, while The Favourite was right behind with three.

The categories and nominees are...

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Notes and Reactions...

  • It was cut and paste day, as every nominee for Best Cast earned a Best Picture Golden Globe nomination, either in the Drama or Comedy / Musical categories. The same is true of the Lead Actress / Lead Actor categories, while only one Supporting Actor and two Supporting Actresses weren’t not also Golden Globe nominees.
  • How does The Favourite earn three acting nominations, but not one for Best Cast?
  • Emily Blunt picked up two nods, one for Mary Poppins Returns and the other for A Quiet Place
