Movie Website Updates for March 3 - March 9

March 9, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. This week's winner was one of last week's best sites, She's the Man - Official Site, which added a lot of content this week including some old stuff that was off site for previous weeks.

American Gun - Official Site
So far it is just a re-direct to the Participant Films movie site, but with just two weeks till the film opens, there's not much time to create a full site.

Ask the Dust - Official Site
The rest of the content was added, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer. The clips are still marked coming soon, but it's common for sites to not add those till after the movie opens.

Cars - Official Site
The flash site launched this week, and there's a lot of potential here. There is also a lot marked coming soon, so it is too soon to tell if the site will be an award-worthy site. (If I was to take an educated guess, I would say yes.) On a pleasant note, there appears to be plans for weekly updates from now till the movie hits theatres.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
Yet another clip online, this one following Trevor as he tries to get kisses from the female members of the cast and crew.

Duck Season - Official Site
No changes since the site was first on the list.

Failure to Launch - Official Site
This isn't a bad site with all the usual features and a few extras, but didn't do enough to sell the film, at least not to me.

Game 6 - Official Site
No real changes since the site was first on this list, and like the first time it was on this list, it is having issues, (missing images, slow load times, etc.).

The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things - Official Site
The trailer is online, but you have to go to Apple.com to see it, and you need iTunes to view it.

The Hills Have Eyes - Official Site
Good site with all the usual features plus enough extras to keep the surfer interested, but not enough to set itself apart from the rest of the pack.

Ice Age: The Meltdown - Official Site
The flash site is up with all the usual features for an animated film, character bios, cast bios, trailer, etc. But there are several games for the kids to play. On the other hand, the background music is a really short clip from Ice, Ice Baby and gets really repetitive really fast.

Kinky Boots - Official Site
The movie has a North American release date, what it doesn't have is a new website. Hopefully that will change soon, and hopefully it will be as good as the U.K. site.

Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector - Official Site
The flash site is up, but outside the trailer, everything is marked coming soon.

The Libertine - Official Site
Typical Weinstein Co. movie website.

Little Man - Official Site
Just the trailer so far.

Lonesome Jim - Official Site
All the usual features are here but not enough extra to stand out compared to most movie websites. The trailer should sell the film well to the indie crowd, but it will likely not find an audience till the home market.

Lucky Number Slevin - Official Site
Last week the site had just the name, and it wasn't even done in an interesting font. This week it turned into the usual Weinstein Co. website with the synopsis, trailer, and links to the cast's pages at IMDb.

La Mujer de Mi Hermano - Official Site
This site has all the usual features, each of which pops up in its own window. Now sure why they did that as it doesn't add anything to the site. Also, I couldn't get the trailer or the two music videos to work, but I'm not sure if that's a problem on my end or their end.

The Notorious Bettie Page - Official Site
The flash site is up, but outside the usual features, (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, trailer), there's not much to see.

A Prairie Home Companion - Official Site
So far it's just the synopsis, the trailer, and some information on the director.

R.V. - Official Site
Slight change in the look of the placeholder sight with the synopsis, worldwide release dates, tour schedule added.

Scary Movie 4 - Official Site
The flash site is up, and there's a stronger emphasis on background animation than there is on actual information about the movie.

The Shaggy Dog - Official Site
All the features were added today, just in time for tomorrow's release. It's a huge site with plenty to do including a few games / activities, eight movie clips and a behind-the-scene featurette. However, the server is getting pounded at the moment and that is causing problem. That really hurts the site's effectiveness.

She's the Man - Official Site
The week before last I mentioned that having the same clip of Amanda Bynes intro each section was too repetitive. The next week there were different clips with different actors for each section. Last week I mentioned that this was a huge site but since a lot of the content was spread out so many sites that I really couldn't give the main one the Weekly Website Award. This week all of the content was added to the main site. Now I'm saying the only way to improve the site is if I get an autographed picture of Amanda Bynes sent to me. (I'll tell you next week if it works.) Along with all the old content making its appearance on the site, there's a new music video as well as a MySpace profile. The only content still marked coming soon is the one called My Universe under the Special Features section and with the movie only a week away, it should be added soon. In the meantime, the site with its mix of regular features, and massive collection of video clips is the winner of the Shakespearean Weekly Website Award.

Simple Things - Official Site
Simple site will all the usual features, (synopsis, cast & crew bios, gallery and trailer). There's not much animation, but the background music helps set the mood nicely.

Slither - Official Site
Big update this week with most of the features added both regular features like production notes and TV spots as well as extras like Brenda Pet, (yuck), and Hunting Season. Hunting Season is a fun action game that I was doing really well in till my hand started cramping up, then one of the little guys got me. The only things still marked coming soon are the cast & crew bios and the film clips. On the down side, Greetings from Wheelsey is no longer on the site.

Stay Alive - Official Site
The flash site is up, but like most new flash sites on this week's list, there's not much new content. The Synopsis is there, as are some images, but the cast & crew bios and the production notes are still marked coming soon. Also, if there's anything truly unique, it's not even hinted at on the site. Lastly, I have to say that the tagline, "You Die In The Game - You Die For Real" is awful. Just terrible. It doesn't flow, it doesn’t sell the movie's potential creativity, it's not scary.

V For Vendetta - Official Site
Better clips of the soundtrack were added, as was a talk back feature.

X-Men: The Last Stand - Official Site
New intro, new trailer. I'm starting to get excited about this movie.
