VOD Releases: Take it to the Max

August 12th, 2020

Max Reload and the Nether Blasters

There are some relatively big titles on this week’s list of VOD releases. The King of Staten Island and The Wretched both earned some of the loudest buzz during the pandemic-induced disruptions. However, it is a smaller film on this week’s list, Max Reload and the Nether Blasters, that I’m most interested in, as it hits the right nerdy notes for me. I’m also cautiously optimistic about Perry Mason: Season 1. More...

New on Disc: Eureka! The Pick of the Week

August 11th, 2020

Eureka: The Complete Series

TV on DVD continues to dominate the home market on DVD and Blu-ray. This includes this week’s Pick of the Week, Eureka: The Complete Series: Blu-ray. However, it isn’t the only new release worth picking up. The Wretched was a hit in theaters, which you can’t say about most films over the past several months. Meanwhile, the price is the only downside with The Complete Films of Agnès Varda. If you want smaller releases, I would go with Lucky Grandma (DVD or Blu-ray) or Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (Blu-ray). More...

DEG Watched At Home Chart: Scoob! Shakes Up the Chart

July 30th, 2020

Scoob!

The DEG Watched at Home chart remains mostly static this week, with four of the five films in last week’s top five also reaching the top five this week. This includes Trolls World Tour, which has been top for four weeks now. The arrival of Scoob! on disc does shake things up a bit though. More...

Will These Limited and Virtual Releases have Audiences in the Palm of Their Hands?

July 9th, 2020

Palm Springs

I am not hopeful about this weekend’s box office chances. Granted, there are some movies earning stellar reviews, but none of them have a hope of box office success. Palm Springs is the biggest and arguably best film on this week’s list, but it is also streaming on Hulu, so I expect it to go nowhere at the box office. More...

VOD Releases: There’s a Large Gap Between Quality and Quantity

July 8th, 2020

Sometimes Always Never

There are a ton of new releases on VOD this week. Unfortunately, most are rather weak and almost none are going to find a significant audience. The War of the Worlds is the best release, but the Criterion Collection Blu-ray is the better deal. On the other hand, Sometimes Always Never is perfect for VOD, but you have to wait until Friday to get it. More...
