Weekend predictions: Bob Marley could have the best weekend of 2024 so far

February 16th, 2024

Bob Marley: One Love

Bob Marley: One Love made a huge splash on Wednesday when it had the best mid-week opening day ever for a Valentine’s Day release. Its $14 million debut is also the best single day for a movie at the box office so far this year, comfortably beating Mean Girls$11.5-million opening day. This weekend, it could claim the biggest weekend of the year if it can top $28.6 million between Friday and Sunday. That landmark isn’t guaranteed, but the biopic should end the weekend with over $40 million in the bank, and possibly more than $50 million, from its first five days in theaters. More...

Weekend predictions: Oscar nominees and Miller’s Girl unlikely to challenge Mean Girls

January 26th, 2024

Mean Girls

Substantial expansions by Oscar hopefuls and a Jenna Ortega/Martin Freeman psychological thriller probably won’t be enough to topple Mean Girls from the top of the box office chart this weekend. In fact, we will see the same top five as last weekend and the weekend before, unless something performs much better than expected. More...

Weekend predictions: Mean Girls expected to stay on top

January 19th, 2024

Mean Girls

The weekend after the MLK Holiday is shaping up to be a quiet one at the box office. The two significant new releases, I.S.S. and Origin aren’t expected to challenge Mean Girls for top spot, and the biggest question is how steeply the comedy-musical will decline after its $28.6-million opening weekend. More...

Weekend predictions: Mean Girls eyeing opening in the high 20s

January 12th, 2024

Mean Girls

Mean Girls looks set to post a peppy opening weekend somewhere in the high $20-millions, based on our model’s assessment of its $3.25 million in previews on Thursday. That will give it an easy weekend win, although The Beekeeper also looks as though it’ll post good numbers this weekend, and several Holiday holdovers are still bringing in respectable business.
