DVD Sales: March 17th, 2013: Guardians Golden, Pi Rather Lifeless

There were not a lot of new releases on the March 17th, 2013 edition of the DVD sales chart, but one of them took top spot. Rise of the Guardians sold 804,000 units and generated $12.45 million in sales. This is a solid opening for this type of release. Life of Pi earned second place, but with a slightly disappointing result of 528,000 units / $8.97 million. It did perform relatively better on Blu-ray. Wreck-it Ralph was third in terms of units at 450,000 units, but second in terms of revenue at $8.98 million. After two weeks of release, the film has sold 1.44 million units and generated $25.83 million in sales. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 fell from first to fourth with 345,000 units / $5.17 million; however, it remains on top of the yearly chart with totals of 3.81 million units / $57.04 million. Red Dawn rounded out the top five with 118,000 units / $2.36 million for the week giving it 403,000 units / $7.23 million after two.

The only other new release to chart was Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away, but it only managed 25th place with 27,000 units / $466,000.
