Lincoln Takes Lead in Per Theater Chart and Award Season

November 14, 2012

Lincoln was the easy winner on the per theater chart earning an average of $85,846 over the weekend. Had it earned an average of $31,554, which was its best single-day average, it would have been impressive. A start this strong is a good indicator for Awards Season success. The overall box office leader, Skyfall, was the only other member of the $10,000 earning an average of $25,211.

The rest of the new limited releases were not as strong. Citadel and A Royal Affair were neck-and-neck at $5,715 and $5,459 respectively. Starlet barely avoided the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,610 in six theaters. 28 Hotel Rooms was not as lucky earning just $1,869 in its lone theater. The Comedy earned an estimated $6,000 in six theaters for an average of $1,000. Nature Calls was far worse with an average of $191 in two theaters.

This past week, there was only one major milestones, as The Sessions topped $1 million before the weekend. It is already more than halfway to $2 million, so there will be more milestones next week.
