No Secret Who Tops the Per Theater Chart

September 9, 2008

There was only one film that earned more than $10,000 on the per theater chart, as A Secret managed to make $37,000 in 3 theaters for an average of $12,378.

The next best of the new releases was Save Me, which earned about half that with an average of $6,992 while Mister Foe was right behind with $6,745. Surfer, Dude also did reasonably well with $5,971 in its lone theater. On the other hand, Ping Pong Playa struggled with just over $30,000 in 9 theaters for an average of $3,422. The widest limited release of the week, Everyone Wants to be Italian, barely broke the Mendoza Line with just under $200,000 in 98 theaters for an average of $2,018.

This past week also saw milestones reached for several Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Frozen River had its best weekend yet as it reached $1 million in total.
  • Likewise, Transsiberian also had its best weekend yet and it also reached $1 million during its run.
  • As expected, Elegy has fallen off its peak, but it still made it to $2 million and it could make it to $3 million by this time next week.
  • Hamlet 2 hit $3 million on Monday, $4 million over the weekend, and should last long enough to top $5 million before long.
  • Vicky Cristina Barcelona has earned $15 million during its run so far, which makes it only the third Woody Allen film to do so in the past decade.
