Good Kill

Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Best in Show is the latest DVD release from Strawberry Shortcake's Berry Bitty Adventures. This TV show started in 2010 and lasted 52 episodes before ending in 2013. However, recently it was announced that the show would be coming back starting in June of this year. So it makes sense to release a DVD of the previous season to get kids excited.

The Show

  • Partners in Crime
Blueberry Muffin is a huge fan of mystery stories, specifically the Patty Persimmon series. She's trying to write a story of her own, but she has writer's block. She then gets help from Huckleberry Pie. But when she learns he's also writing a song with Cherry Pie, she gets jealous.
  • A Boy and His Dogs
Strawberry Shortcake is warned by the Berrykins of a seven-nosed monster living in the fields. It's not a monster. It's seven puppies. It turns out a newcomer into town, Huckleberry Pie, was driving through when his van breaks down. Strawberry Shortcake offers a place to stay, but when the puppies get a little too rambunctious, he offers to stay until he gets everything fixed up.
On a side note, when the Berrykin first encountered the puppies, one of them gets licked by a puppy. In response, he said, "Something lolipped me." I'm going to make, "I've been lolipped!" a common phrase, even if I have to start licking everyone I meet.
  • The Mystery of the Disappearing Dog show
The gang tries to raise money to help Huckleberry Pie home more homeless dogs. Blueberry's first plan was selling the short story the two wrote together. The second plan is to hold a dog show to raise money.

The Extras

There are printable coloring pages on the DVD, as well as a digital storybook you can download.

The Verdict

Obviously I'm not in the target audience for Strawberry Shortcake, but I actually enjoy these shows more than a lot of other things I have to review. It's cute and colorful and should entertain kids. The DVD doesn't have a lot of extras, while the price-per-minute is only okay for this type of release.
