The Martian

The Martian returned to first place with $30.0 million in 73 markets for totals of $218.8 million internationally and $385.0 million worldwide. The film's only major market opening was in France where it earned second place with $6.81 million on 560 screens. It also remained in first place in South Korea with $3.99 million on 731 screens over the weekend for a three-week total of $28.43 million. I don't know if it has broken even yet, but it is very close to getting there.

Hotel Transylvania 2 rose a spot to second place with $28.7 million in 80 markets for totals of $167.5 million internationally and $315.7 million worldwide. This film will likely catch up to its predecessor by this time next week, which means a third film in the franchise is inevitable. The film opened in first place in Russia with $6.05 million on 1,636 screens and in Spain with $3.19 million on 658.

Ant-Man fell to third place with $22.0 million in 3 markets over the weekend for totals of $314.8 million internationally and $493.8 million worldwide. The film pulled in $39.07 million in China, but that was for the full week, and $81.87 million after two weeks of release. It hit $500 million on Wednesday, which is a huge reason for Disney / Marvel to celebrate.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension opened in fourth place with $18.0 million in 34 markets. Its best opening came in Brazil, where it earned first place with $1.59 million on 564 screens. It also did well in Russia with $1.76 million on 1,200 screens. On the other hand, it only managed third place in Australia with $963,000 on 296, fourth place in Germany with $2.04 million on 321, and fifth place in France and the U.K. with $2.33 million on 201 and $1.73 million on 689, respectively.

The Last Witch Hunter was next with an opening of $13.4 million in 54 markets. The film did well in some Southeast Asian markets, like Malaysia where it earned first place with $901,000 on 118 screens. On the other hand, it bombed in major markets like the U.K., where it earned sixth place with $1.91 million on 365 screens. It was even worse in Germany with $1.14 million on 422 screens, which was only enough for seventh place.

Pan slipped a spot to sixth with $12.3 million in 62 markets over the weekend for totals of $63.6 million internationally and $93.5 million worldwide. The film needs to get to $150 million worldwide just to save face. I don't mean it needs that much to break even. It needs that much just to save face. The film earned sixth place and $3.45 million during its four-day opening in China. Meanwhile in France, it also earned sixth place with $2.14 million on 489 screens.

Shaandaar opened in seventh place with $8.0 million in 8 markets. The film earned Rs 33.51 crore in its native India, which is $5.14 million in USD. It started out well, but collapsed during the weekend.

Crimson Peak fell to eighth place with $7.8 million in 63 markets over the weekend for a two-week total of $26.4 million. It's officially a bomb. It needed about twice this much at this point to have any real chance of breaking even.

The Intern slipped to ninth place with $7.8 million in 67 markets, for totals of $91.1 million internationally and $155.7 million worldwide. If it hasn't broken even already, it will get there very shortly.

Les Nouvelles Aventures d’Aladdin entered the chart in tenth place with $7.06 million on 736 screens in two markets. Those two markets were led by France, where it remained in first place with $6.90 million on 713 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $17.12 million. Meanwhile, it earned second place in Switzerland with $161,000 on 23 screens for a two-week total of $437,000.
