Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom remained in first place with $173.6 million in 51 markets for a two-week total of $370.0 million worldwide. It opened in first place in China with $111.31 million over the weekend, for a total opening of $113.42 million. This is better than the $100.10 million opening Jurassic World managed in that market. While this is good news, there are some issues. The film suffered an average of 60% decline in holdover markets. This includes a 63% decline in South Korea ($5.44 million on 1,230 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $37.74 million.) and in Russia ($2.78 million on 1,541 screens for a running tally of $15.16 million there.) It did hold on better in the United Kingdom, down 51% to $9.38 million in 656 theaters for a total of $33.75 million so far. The film has yet to open in Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, where it opens this weekend. Meanwhile, the film doesn’t open in Japan till next month.

Incredibles 2 opened in second place with $51.5 million in 25 markets during its opening weekend. This is not as good as its opening here, but it also demolished records here, so that’s a high bar to reach. The film did very well in Latin America, earning Pixar’s best opening in both Mexico ($12.12 million, including previews) and Argentina ($3.0 million). It also was the studio’s fastest opening film in Australia with $7.91 million, just ahead of Finding Dory, which opened with $7.63 million in that market. It is too soon to tell how long the film’s legs will be, but this is a great start and it appears to be on pace for $1 billion worldwide.

Ocean’s 8 remained in third place with $18.9 million on 6,178 screens in 36 markets for a two-week international total of $36.8 million. The film’s best new market was South Korea, where it earned $2.92 million on 821 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $5.01 million. Its best holdover was Australia, where it added $1.97 million on 349 screens to its running tally, which now sits at $7.73 million.

Strong Insect Crossing the River, a.k.a., The Way Of The Bug was next with $10.16 million over the weekend in its native China.

Deadpool 2 rounded out the top five with $9.82 million in 76 markets for totals $394.87 million internationally and $689.43 million worldwide. It will be at $700 million worldwide by this time next week.

Avengers: Infinity War fell out of the top five, but it still managed $3.1 million in 45 markets for totals of $1.356 billion internationally and $2.020 billion worldwide. It might have enough juice left in the tank to overtake The Force Awakens for third place on that chart. It will have an easier chance, if it gets a synergistic boost from the Ant-Man and the Wasp debut in a few weeks.
