June 27, 2018

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom completed the hat-trick with $107.6 million in 67 markets for three-week totals of $561.5 million internationally and $709.5 million worldwide. The film’s biggest opening was in Mexico, where it earned $10.14 million over the weekend for a total opening of $12.09 million. It also did well in South America with $9.28 million during its opening in Brazil, while in neighboring Argentina, the film earned $2.51 million over the weekend for a total opening of $2.75 million. It earned $7.63 million on 734 screens during its opening in Australia. The film fell 69% in China earning $33.96 million over the weekend for a two-week total of $202.07 million.

Incredibles 2 remained in second place with $56.8 million in 28 markets for a still early international total of $134.7 million and a worldwide total of $484.5 million. The film opened in second place in China with $20.91 million and earned first place in India with $3.3 million. Those numbers might not seem like much, but it is the best Pixar opening in China and the best animated opening in India.

Ocean’s 8 held strong in third place with $27.6 million on 12,071 screens in 60 markets for an international total of $71.3 million. The film had solid openings in the U.K. ($5.8 million on 1,002 screens); Russia ($2.6 million on 2,264 screens); and Germany ($2.0 million on 789 screens). It has had a very strong hold in South Korea, down just 32% to $1.98 million over the weekend for a two-week total of $8.35 million. The film has yet to open in Spain, Italy, Japan, and other markets, and should have no trouble getting to $100 million internationally. In fact, it should top $250 million worldwide before its done. That’s more than enough to guarantee profitability.

Lobster Cop opened in third place in its native China and fourth place internationally with $6.84 million, including previews.

The Accidental Detective 2: In Action dipped just 8% in its native South Korea, which is almost unheard of for that market. This allowed it to climb into fifth place overall with $5.04 million on 1,135 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $15.83 million.

Avengers: Infinity War has fallen out of the top ten, but it earned $1.3 million in 39 markets for totals of $1.361 billion internationally and $2.031 billion worldwide. The film is in third place on the all-time international chart, but it is not going to climb any higher. It is in fourth place worldwide, and it looks like The Force Awakens will remain in third place for now.
