Friday Estimates: Soldado is Solid, but Dinosaurs Dominate

June 30, 2018

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom added $17.44 million on Friday, after hitting $200 million on Thursday. It was easily the best film on the day; however, this was still 70% lower than its opening Friday. Granted, it will bounce back tomorrow and should come close to our $60 million prediction, but it is not going to have great legs, like its predecessor had.

Incredibles 2 crossed the $400 million mark in just 15 days after earning $13.63 million on Friday. This puts it on pace for $45 million over the weekend, exactly as predicted, and $500 million domestically.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado opened in third place with $7.4 million, which probably isn’t enough to get to $20 million over the full weekend, but it should come close. The film’s reviews are in the overall positive level, but its CinemaScore is only a B, which isn’t good for this type of film. That will probably hurt the film’s legs, but getting to $50 million is still within reach after today’s numbers.

Uncle Drew was close behind with $6.13 million, which is right in line with expectations. There is some good news to report, as the film’s reviews have continued to improve and are now 67% positive. It also earned a solid A from CinemaScore, so it could have better than average legs. Obviously it is a little early to talk about legs, but the signs are positive.
