Ghostbusters:Afterlife

Heading into Thanksgiving weekend, three new wide releases catapult into theaters with Wednesday arrivals. The largest of the three is Encanto. Directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, and with original songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Encanto opens in 3,980 locations. Coming in next is the biographical crime drama, House of Gucci, directed by Ridley Scott and starring an ensemble cast of top level Hollywood actors, including Jared Leto, Adam Driver, Jeremy Irons, Lady Gaga, and Al Pacino. House of Gucci is set to release in 3,441 theaters. Lastly, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in 2,803 cinemas. The $25 million action horror reboot stars Kaya Scodelario and is directed by 47 Meters Down and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged helmer, Johannes Roberts.

Despite the aforementioned openings, last week’s widest release, Ghostbusters: Afterlife remains in the most theaters this week. The latest Ghostbusters film exceeded early predictions by obtaining just over $44 million during its first weekend in North America, and just short of $16 million internationally, which gives the franchise a worldwide box office total of $804 million. Afterlife will keep its 4,315 location count heading into the Holiday weekend. Clifford the Big Red Dog, drops from 3,628 to 3,331 theaters on Wednesday, then drops again to 3,292 starting Friday. Finally, with a domestic total of $137 million, Eternals loses 890 theaters this week, landing at 3,165 locations.

Opening in limited release this week from Freestyle Releasing is the suspense drama For the Love of Money. The film is about a mother who when pushed to her limit, turns to the only world she knows, a world she’s spent a lifetime running from, to protect her daughter. For the Love of Money is set to arrive in 516 theaters.
