Theater counts: 80 for Brady and Knock at the Cabin debut as this week’s widest releases

The first weekend in February brings three new wide releases to movie theaters across North America. Starting its theatrical run in 3,912 cinemas, the sports comedy 80 for Brady stars Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno as three lifelong friends who travel to Houston to watch their idol Tom Brady play in Super Bowl LI. The second-widest release this week is newcomer, Knock at the Cabin. Playing in 3,643 locations, the M. Night Shyamalan psychological horror film follows a family who, when taken hostage, are forced to make a choice to avoid the apocalypse.
Last week’s widest release, A Man Called Otto slips to third this week, but is still widely available in 3,407 venues. The Tom Hanks comedy-drama has collected just short of $50 million since opening on December 30. There are still plenty of opportunities to see Avatar: The Way of Water on the big screen as the $2 billion+ worldwide earner is showing in 3,310 movie houses this week. Finishing up the top five is Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, still accessible in 3,285 movie houses. Not to be overlooked is the latest in The Chosen series as The Chosen: Season 3 Finale is expected to open in about 2,100 cinemas.
Looking ahead to next week we see the introduction of two new wide releases and a re-release of a mega blockbuster for its 25th anniversary as Titanic is set to add to its $659 million domestic total by coming back in approximately 1,800 theaters. Also making its theatrical launch is IFC Films’ horror feature, Consecration and the latest in the Magic Mike franchise in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which is expected to be in between 1,200 and 1,500 locations.
