Weekend predictions: Five Nights aiming for mid-50s
December 5, 2025
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 should come top at the box office this weekend, with Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good both looking likely to fall sharply from their Thanksgiving weekends. With seven movies opening or expanding wide, there’s a lot to choose from, although the weekend after Thanksgiving tends to be one of the weakest of the year, and theaters aren’t likely to be packed this weekend.
Here’s our baseline for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, before we got preview numbers:
The Five Nights sequel never looked like it had the level of audience interest enjoyed by the first movie, and its preview numbers confirm that it will fall short of the stellar $80-million debut earned by its predecessor.
The previews point to $56 million, and our model says $56.8 million based on that plus our fundamentals prediction. My hunch is that Freddy’s 2 will be more front-loaded than Freddy’s 1, which would suggest a weekend in the lower 50s. It’s still entirely possible that it will miss $50 million, but a $40-million-plus opening is still a great result, given the budget of this film, and relatively limited marketing.
The other movie to post preview results so far is Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution…
$1.6 million is another excellent number for an anime title. While I think it might not make it to the $10.2 million the model predicts, something close to $10 million seems likely.
Here’s what the model thinks the top 10 will look like.
There’s a big caveat with this week’s prediction. Four more films are opening “wide.” None are opening wide enough for our model to have a prediction, but some will probably make it into the top 10. In rough order of likelihood, from highest to lowest, look out for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (debuting in 1,198 theaters), Merrily We Roll Along, Fackham Hall, and 100 Nights of Hero. I’d be surprised if Kill Bill doesn’t hit the top 10. The other three are more of a roll of the dice.
