Torino Grand on Per Theater Chart

Gran Torino opened on top of the Per Theater Chart with an outstanding average of $45,287 in six theaters. Wide expansion seems inevitable at this point. Likewise, Doubts debut of just over $500,000 in 15 theaters gave it an average $33,815 making expansion almost assured. Che - The Argentine was close behind with $30,535 in two theaters. The Reader opened with an average of $21,006 in 8 theaters, which most weeks would be enough to score top spot; however, given the competition, without continued success during Awards Season, it could struggle to expand. There were only two holdovers in the $10,000 club with Frost/Nixon earning an average of $16,061 and Slumdog Millionaire earning $12,873. The final $10,000 film was Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which opened with $10,985. However, both My Name Is Bruce and Wendy and Lucy came relatively close with averages of $9,119 and $9,109 respectively. Starting Out on Top of the Per Theater Chart

Starting Out in the Evening earned first place on the per theater chart with and average of $10,888 in seven theaters. This should be enough for it to expand over the holidays, but probably not enough to get noticed during award season. Margot at the Wedding was in second place with and average of $10,767 after increasing its theater count to 35. Finally, the re-re-re-release of The Polar Express added just over $150,000 in 15 theaters for an average of $10,024 and a total of $338,000 during its latest round in theaters. More...

Polar Express Hit Another Milestone on IMAX

The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience, which was already the highest grossing DMR film, crossed $60 million worldwide during its second season of release. The film earned $15 million during its second season despite going up against its DVD release. If the film can earn anything close to that next year, it could become a seasonal event like Santa vs. the Snowmen and if that happens, it could challenge some of the All-Time Champs. More...

Holiday Season Ends with Double Milestone for IMAX

Both The Polar Express: IMAX Experience and Santa vs. the Snowmen hit milestones this past weekend. The former film topped $10 million during its re-release, and the latter hit $1 million during the same period. Sex (Research) Sells

Kinsey, the biography of sex researcher Dr. Alfred Kinsey was top of the per theatre charts this past weekend. With nearly $170,000 in 5 theatres, the film was able to earn an impressive $33,808 per theatre average. Coming in second place was another biography, Finding Neverland with an average of $27,566 in 8 theatres. Well back was Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which took in $16,385 in 530 on average.
