Synopsis

Grind House — noun — A downtown movie theater - in disrepair since its glory days as a movie palace of the '30s and '40s - known for "grinding out" non-stop double-bill programs of B-movies.

From groundbreaking directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez comes a double-bill of thrillers that recalls both filmmakers' favorite exploitation films. Grindhouse will be presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films helmed separately by each director. Tarantino's film, Death Proof, is a rip-roaring slasher flick where the killer pursues his victims with a car rather than a knife, while Rodriguez's film explores an alien world eerily familiar to ours in Planet Terror. Welcome to the grind house - it'll tear you in two.

Besides the two main features Grindhouse also contains 4 trailer to not (yet) existing movies, Machete (by Rodriguez), Thanksgiving (by Eli Roth), Don't Scream (by Edgar Wright) and Werewolf Women of the S.S. (by Rob Zombie)

Budget Note

Grindhouse's budget was rumored (see, e.g., Variety, 2/17/2007) to be approaching $100 million in the latter stages of its production. The Weinsteins gave a figure of $53 million prior to the movie's release (see Hollywood Reporter, 3/29/2007). We are using the latter figure.

Note on International Grosses

After the US release, Death Proof was released on its own internationally. The international figures reported here apply to Death Proof only.
