Synopsis

Joan Stanley is a widow living out a quiet retirement in the suburbs when, shockingly, the British Secret Service places her under arrest. The charge: providing classified scientific information—including details on the building of the atomic bomb—to the Soviet government for decades. As she is interrogated, Joan relives the dramatic events that shaped her life and beliefs: her student days at Cambridge, where she excelled at physics while challenging deep-seated sexism; her tumultuous love affair with a dashing political radical; and the devastation of World War II, which inspired her to risk everything in pursuit of peace, bringing to life the conflicts—between patriotism and idealism, love and duty, courage and betrayal—of a woman who spent a lifetime being underestimated while quietly changing the course of history.

Theater Averages: John Wick Denied a Souvenir

May 23rd, 2019

The Souvenir

There were only two films in the $10,000 club this past weekend, The Souvenir and John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. The former earned an average of $19,600 in four theaters, while the latter earned an average of $14,758 in close to 4,000 theaters. More...

Theater Averages: Silvers Wins Gold

April 25th, 2019

Under The Silver Lake

Under the Silver Lake earned top spot on the theater average chart with an average of $17,635 in two theaters. This is amazing for two reasons. Firstly, its reviews are barely above the 50% level. Secondly, it opened on VOD on Tuesday, so anyone who was interested in seeing the movie didn’t have to wait long to see it at home instead. On the other hand, it is a A24 release and the company has had an amazing track record at the box office during its young career. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: Taking a Highway to Hell

April 12th, 2019

Penguin Highway

Her Smell is arguably the biggest hit on this week’s list of new films in limited release. Meanwhile, Penguin Highway has 100% positive reviews and Wild Nights With Emily isn’t that far behind. Hopefully all three, and maybe some others on this week’s list, can find an audience. More...
