Friday Estimates: Deadpool Delivers a Mortal Blow to Gods of Egypt

Deadpool will again earn first place at the box office, and with more than anticipated. It earned $8.95 million on Friday, which is 45% lower than last Friday's box office. If it maintains this run, then it will earn $31 million over the weekend for a total of $285 million. By this time next weekend, it will be over $300 million domestically. I don't think the studio was expecting $300 million worldwide when it gave the film the greenlight.
Gods of Egypt also did a little better than expected earning $4.76 million on Friday. Granted, "better" in this case only means the difference between total bomb and complete bomb. In other words, it really doesn't matter. The reviews will result in weak legs giving the film a $13 million opening and a quick exit from theaters.
Triple 9 opened in third, but with just $2.14 million and will likely finish the weekend with under $6 million. To put this in perspective, the film had a better opening in the U.K., if you take the relative size of the two markets into consideration. It only cost $20 million to make, but there's little chance it will break even any time soon.
The final new release of the week was Eddie the Eagle, which only managed sixth place with $1.935 million. Its reviews and target demographic might help it catch up to Triple 9 in the end with just under $6 million. It could be very close.
