Limited and VOD Releases: Love Goes After Limited Releases

Many of the films on this week’s list are good, but not great. Some are like After Louie, good enough to rent on VOD, but not worth a trip to the theaters. Fortunately, there are some that are worth a trip to the theaters, including Love After Love and Outside In.

Alan Cumming stars as a former AIDS activist who wonders how the LGBT+ community got to where it is. The reviews are good, but not good enough for limited release. On the other hand, it is perfect for a $5 VOD rental.

Sharon Stone stars in this Black List Graduate. The Black List is a list of unproduced screenplays released every year. Sadly, even when films escape this list, the result is usually pretty bad. This is not an exception. It’s almost like these screenplays are unproduced for a reason.

A documentary about financial fraud in the Chinese market. Its reviews are good, but likely not good enough to thrive in limited release. On the other hand, it’s worth a $6 rental.
When Sandra finds out her husband is cheating on her, she moves in with her sister. The two sisters are very different, but different is just what Sandra needs. This film’s Tomatometer Score is 76% positive and its average score is 5.6 out of 10. That’s likely not good enough to thrive in limited release. It might be enough to find an audience on the home market, on the other hand.
Lola Kirke plays the personal assistant to a film actress, played by Zoë Kravitz. When her boss is murdered, she’s the prime suspect and has to figure out who the real murderer is before the police arrest her. The reviews might be good enough to thrive in limited release, but that’s never a sure thing.

This film hit the home market on Tuesday, but comes out on limited release tonight. I reviewed its Blu-ray release, but if you still feel mixed about the film, you can rent it VOD for just $7.
Andie MacDowell stars as a woman whose husband has died. When she starts dating, it strains her relationships with her adult children. There are barely enough reviews on Rotten Tomatoes to be listed here, but all ten reviews are positive, so it might have a real shot at box office success in limited release.
Jay Duplass stars as a man who just got out of prison after serving 20 years for a crime he didn’t commit. He only got out, because his former teacher, Carol, spent years helping him. Now the pair have a connection, one that Carol no longer has with her husband, Ted. The reviews and the star power suggest this film could thrive in limited release.

Caught is by far the best of the secondary VOD releases and is certainly worth $6 if you are a fan of more psychological horror.
