Friday Estimates: Infinity Hits Century Mark on Opening Day

April 28, 2018

Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War easily topped the chart on Friday, earning $105.97 million. It is only the third film to crack $100 million in a single day, and is behind only The Force Awakens on the that chart. The film is on pace for $237 million during its opening weekend, which is the second-best weekend of all time, again, behind only The Force Awakens. As for its legs, the film’s reviews are 84% positive, while it earned an A from CinemaScore, which bodes well for its word-of-mouth and long term success.

There are more films playing in theaters at the moment, but almost none of them are worth talking about based on their Friday results, as they are a rounding error compared to amount Avengers: Infinity War is pulling in. The exception is Black Panther, which looks like it will returned to the top five this weekend after earning $1.27 million on Friday. The film has been in theaters for more than 10 weeks, yet it is poised to grab fifth place on the weekend chart.
