June 27, 2018

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom led the way on the theater average chart with an average of $33,078, putting it ahead of Incredibles 2’s sophomore stint score of $18,219. The King was the best of the new limited releases, with an average of $14,525 in two theaters. Finally, 2001: A Space Odyssey returned to the $10,000 club with an average of $12,989. The 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack is coming out in October.

The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Damsel, which was way back with an average of $6,763 in three theaters. Boundaries was relatively close behind with an average of $5,910 in five theaters. Lobster Cop opened with an average of $2,918 in 12 theaters. The Catcher was a Spy was the widest limited release of the week playing in 45 theaters, but it only got an average of $2,495. Spiral missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,629 in two theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • The Seagull finally got to $1 million during its seventh week of release. This is as far as it will go.
  • American Animals reached $1 million early in the weekend and it will have no trouble getting to $2 million.
  • Gotti topped $2 million over the weekend and $3 million during the weekend. It didn’t fall as fast as I thought it would, so $4 million is likely.
  • Won’t You Be My Neighbor raced past $2 million before the weekend and was at $4 million before the weekend was over. The film’s theater average is still above $5,000, so it should have little trouble adding theaters and reaching more milestones.
