Theater Averages: Getting Smarter

August 9, 2018

The Miseducation of Cameron Post

The Miseducation of Cameron Post was the only film in the $10,000 club this past weekend earning an average of $24,319 in two theaters.

The rest of the new limited releases had a wide range of results. Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days earned $423,000 in 47 theaters for an average of $8,993. That’s fantastic for a foreign-language film. Nico, 1988 and Never Goin’ Back both did well with averages of $6,155 and $5,161 respectively. Both films were playing in two theaters. Rendezvous in July struggled with an average of $3,040, also in two theaters. Meanwhile, The Family barely avoided the Mendoza Line with $2,030 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot hit $1 million before the weekend, but its theater average is so low that it won’t get to $2 million.
  • Blindspotting made it to $2 million before the weekend and $3 million over the weekend. It should get to $4 million, but that’s likely where it will end.
  • As expected, Leave No Trace topped $5 million over the weekend. $6 million seems likely, but anything more than that is probably asking for too much.
  • Eighth Grade expanded into just over 1,000 theaters and that helped it get to $6 million over the weekend. Its theater average is low enough that it likely won’t expand significantly beyond this point, but getting to $10 million still seems very likely.
  • Three Identical Strangers hit another milestone, topping $7.5 million over the weekend, and it seems like a lock to get to $10 million at this point.
