2018 Awards Season: DGA - Nominations

January 9, 2019

A Star is Born

Directors Guild of America announced their theatrical nominations this week and we are starting to see some real patterns emerge and I think the Oscar picture is getting clearer.

The categories and nominees are...

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary

First-Time Feature Film Director

Notes and Reactions...

  • Every single nominee for Best Feature Film director was also nominated for a Best Director in the Golden Globes. So when I said, “starting to see some real patterns emerge”, it was a bit of an understatement.
  • Four of the five Best Documentary nominees also earned a PGA nomination. Again, “patterns”.
  • Bradley Cooper got two nominations for A Star is Born, so he’s a lock to win Best First Feature.
