International Box Office: Alita Playing Across the Earth, but Wandering Wins

Alita: Battle Angel

The Wandering Earth remained in first place on the international chart with $96.94 million over the weekend for a running tally of $606.87 million after fourteen days of release.

Alita: Battle Angel was next with $56.18 million in 85 markets for totals of $94.37 million internationally and $131.61 million worldwide. The film’s biggest new market was Russia, where it earned $5.60 million on 1,536 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $6.89 million. It also did very well in France with $5.9 million over the weekend. The film had nearly identical results in Germany ($2.97 million) and Australia ($2.68 million). The film has yet to open in Japan and China and those two markets could be very profitable for the film.

Up next were two Chinese films, starting with Crazy Alien. The film earned $28.16 million over the weekend for a total of $318.49 million so far.

Pegasus was right behind with $25.77 million over weekend for a total of $238.46 million.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World rounded out the top five with $21.9 million in 47 markets for an international total of $175.0 million so far. The film’s biggest new market of the weekend was Poland, where it earned first place with $1.93 million in 182 theaters.
