Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu remained in first place earning $56.4 million on 32,113 screens in 72 markets for totals of $196.2 million internationally and $290.6 million worldwide. The film’s only major market debut of the weekend, and indeed the last major market of the film’s international run, was Russia. It earned first place there with $4.0 million on 3,085 screens. Its biggest market overall was China, where it added $17.94 million on 15,000 screens to its running tally, which now sits at $69.66 million after two weeks of release. It fell 55% during its sophomore stint, which is an amazing hold for this market. The film has no major market openings going forward, but it should stick around long enough to crack $300 million internationally and even has a slim shot at $500 million worldwide.

Avengers: Endgame earned $46.8 million in international markets for totals of $1.844 million internationally and $2.615 million worldwide. The film didn’t make any moves on the all-time international chart, but it did become the biggest Western film in South Korea with a running tally of $101.5 million. The market joins China ($624.6 million) and the U.K. ($109.0 million) as three markets where it has reached the Century Mark.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum opened in third place with $36.93 million on 10,268 screens in 66 markets. The film’s biggest market was the U.K., where it earned first place with $4.63 million on 543 screens. It only managed second place in Russia with $4.13 million on 2,000 screens. The film also crossed $2 million in Australia ($3.05 million on 259 screens) and Taiwan ($2.08 million on 76). This is miles ahead of the openings of the previous films in the franchise. In fact, it is already ahead of the final figures of the original John Wick in a number of major markets, including the U.K., Russia, Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, Taiwan, etc.

A Dog’s Journey entered the top five for the first time with $13.9 million over the weekend for an early international total of $15.5 million. The film opened in second place in China with $11.25 million over the weekend, while Mexico was the only other market where it cracked $1 million, as it earned $1.40 million on 856 screens there.

The Hustle rounded out the top five with $9.7 million over the weekend for a total of $28.2 million so far. The film had no major market openings this past weekend and only earned more than $1 million in a trio of holdovers. It was led by Russia, with $1.24 million on 973 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $4.67 million. Germany was next with $1.09 million on 509 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $3.32 million. Meanwhile, the U.K. had a nearly identical weekend haul of $1.00 million on 443 screens for a total of $2.97 million after two weeks of release.
