Theater Averages: Chapter Two Earns Another Number One

September 12, 2019

It: Chapter Two

It: Chapter Two not only earned first place on the overall box office, it earned first place on the theater average chart with an average of $19,926. Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice was next with an average of $16,176 in seven theaters; this is an excellent result for a documentary. Next up might be my favorite box office result of the year, as Mr. Klein and Ms. Purple had nearly identical openings at $15,915 and $15,734 respectively. Mr. Klien and Ms. Purple just seem like a nice couple. I’m glad they met. ... Moving on.

The rest of the new limited releases were very far back with Chhichhore earning an average of $3,150 in 195 theaters. Ága struggled with $2,553 on one theater over the weekend for a five-day debut of $3,531. Edie missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,257 in seven theaters. Rapid Response was even weaker with an average of just $562 in eight theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Brittany Runs a Marathon got to $1 million early in the weekend and was nearly at $2 million by the end of the weekend. Furthermore, it still has room to grow.
  • Tod@s Caen just got to $2 million over the weekend and it likely won’t get to $3 million.
  • Ne Zha reached $2 million before the weekend and got to $3 million over the weekend. It should continue to expand, making further milestones easy to reach.
  • Don’t Let Go made it to $4 million over the weekend, but it will see its theater count collapse on Friday.
  • The Peanut Butter Falcon hit $10 million just before the weekend and should have enough left to get to $15 million. This isn’t a sure thing, but I think it will get there.
