Five Nights at Freddy’s

After a stellar weekend at the box office that saw Five Nights at Freddy’s topple a 12-year-old Halloween weekend record, the film adds 114 locations this week. Now it’s available in 3,789 cinemas throughout North America, the horror feature becomes the widest release in the land. Currently enjoying a six-day domestic total of just over $92 million, Freddy’s is poised to once again reign over the box office field. This week however see’s a trio of wide releases make their nationwide entrance into theaters.

Expanding into wide release this week is the Priscilla Presley biopic, Priscilla. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the film is told through Priscilla’s eyes, and tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this portrait of love, fantasy, and fame. Priscilla is estimated to expand into about 1,450 theaters after debuting last week in two locations.

Also opening in wide release this weekend is the Meg Ryan-David Duchovny romantic comedy, What Happens Later. Directed by Ryan, the film follows two ex lovers who get snowed in at a regional airport overnight only to find themselves just as attracted to—and annoyed by—one another as they did decades earlier. The Bleecker Street picture will make its arrival in 1,492 movie houses.

Lastly, closing out the wide new releases this week is The Marsh King’s Daughter, starring Daisy Ridley, and Ben Mendelsohn. Debuting in 1,055 venues, the psychological thriller follows a woman who must confront a buried past when her estranged father breaks out of prison. The movie is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Karen Dionne, and is directed by Neil Burger.

Rounding out the top three widest releases this week is Killers of the Flower Moon, playing in only three less theaters than Five Nights at Freddy’s, with availability in 3,786 locations this week. In the third place spot is TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR, playing in 3,604 theaters. Adding 85 cinemas this week is the faith-based documentary film, After Death, showing in 2,730 movie houses. Lastly, The Exorcist: Believer is still available in a solid 2,420 locations.

Worthy of mentioning, if you missed seeing Gran Turismo during its first run, or you want to see it on the big screen again, you’re in luck as the film is making its way back into 1,416 theaters this weekend. The racing film debuted in late August and made over $117 million worldwide during its 10-week run.

Looking ahead to next week we see two new films opening in wide release: The Marvels and Journey to Bethlehem. The former is projected to arrive in about 4,000 theaters, while the latter will debut in about 1,800 cinemas. Meanwhile, The Holdovers will expand into wide release after opening in six locations on October 27th.
