Theater counts: Black Panther remains easily the widest release heading into the Thanksgiving Holiday

November 17th, 2022

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

After amassing a colossal $181 million in its domestic opening weekend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever holds steady going into its second weekend, keeping its 4,396 locations from week one. The sequel surpassed $400 million globally on Wednesday, with $213 million coming from North American viewings, while $187 million arrived from overseas markets. Wakanda Forever won’t be challenged this week at the box office, but two new wide releases make their arrival to cinemas, and She Said, and The Menu, should provide options for nearly every taste. Glass

December would have been an excellent month, except it had to be compared to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The top four movies of this December might not finish with as much as that movie made. That said, the year ended on an overall positive note finishing with a lead of close to $800 million over 2017. Unfortunately, 2019 is going to get off to a slow start. Not only are there very few films opening wide this month, only one of them, Glass, is expected to be a midlevel hit or better. Granted, Glass is expected to earn more than $100 million domestically, which is something no film released last January could do. However, The Last Jedi and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle both had such incredible legs that 2019 will still get off to a slower start, even if it has stronger new releases. More...

Down a Dark Hall

Down a Dark Hall opened in limited release and VOD in August. Its early reviews were good, but its current Tomatometer Score is exactly 50% positive. Is it worth a rental? Is there enough replay value to be worth picking up? More...

Featured DVD Review: Sea Change

June 10th, 2018

Sea Change

Sea Change isn’t a movie, per say. It is a busted TV pilot. There are some stark differences between what makes a good TV pilot and what makes a good movie. Does it work as the former, but not the latter? Does it work as neither? More...
