Synopsis

After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees—Claire and Luke—are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England's most haunted hotels. As the Inn's final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage "ghost hunters" begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel's long unexplained history.

2012 - Holiday Gift Guide - Part III

December 15th, 2012

We are getting closer and closer to Christmas and we are getting to the crunch time for gift shopping. After checking out first run releases and franchise box sets in Part I and TV on DVD releases in Part II, this week we look at limited releases, classics, and foreign films. Some are pretty obvious choices, as we had a few limited releases that broke into the mainstream during their theatrical releases, but there are also a few more films that slipped beneath the radar the last time around. The biggest of these is... More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April 24th, 2012

April 24th, 2012

It's slow week for new releases, a really slow week. According to Amazon.com, the best selling new release is Contraband. It was the biggest box office hit released in January, but it was still no more than a midlevel hit. The second best selling release of the week is The Innkeepers, which is a sign that it is a slow week. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but it is a limited release that struggled to find an audience in theaters and it shouldn't be the high on the chart. The third best selling new release of the week is the latest Fullmetal Alchemist release, which is even more surprising, as Anime is still very much a niche market release. The fourth best selling release is Car 54 Where Are You?. Really? I'm surprised anyone remembers that TV show. Are there any releases that are worth picking up? Perhaps even contenders for pick of the week? Actually, The Innkeepers on Blu-ray is in the running, as is Pariah on Blu-ray. However, in the end I went with Todd and The Book Of Pure Evil: Season 1, giving it the rarely awarded Puck of the Week. More...

Per Theater Chart: Truth Stalls but Squeaks Out Win

February 8th, 2012

An Inconsistent Truth repeated on top of the per theater chart with $12,176 in one theater. However, while it won, it fell more than 40%, which is closer to a wide release than a limited release. W.E. was very close behind with an average of $11,769 in four theaters. More...

Keeping Up with Limited Releases

February 3rd, 2012

Talk of Oscars is still dominating art house aficionados, so it comes as no surprise that the list of limited releases is not particularly strong this weekend. That's not to say there are no films worthy of watching, but it is unlikely any of them will be major hits. There are a few noteworthy releases, including W.E., Madonna's attempt at winning an Oscar. It won't. The Innkeepers is the widest release of the week and it is also earning good reviews. However, its the wrong genre for limited release. And finally, there's Moon Point, a Canadian film opening in Toronto. There are Q&A sessions with the filmmakers and cast for the evening shows over the weekend as an added bonus. More...
