Lady Bird

A yearly record was broken this past weekend, as Lady Bird had the best theater average of the year so far with an average of $91,109 in four theaters. This tops the previous yearly record of $84,315 by The Big Sick. It wasn’t the only monster hit on the theater average chart this week. Thor: Ragnarok earned an average of $30,085 in just over 4,000 theaters. There were also two other films that just managed to earn a spot in the $10,000 club, 1945 and Last Flag Flying, which earned averages of $10,317 in two theaters and $10,140 in four theaters respectively.

There were only a handful of other new limited releases, a couple of which did well, a couple of which bombed. My Friend Dahmer and Wait For Your Laugh earned averages of $8,886 and $8,800 respectively. Frank Serpico only managed $2,283 in one theater over the weekend, but its five-day debut was a more respectable $4,905. Blade of the Immortal wasn’t as lucky, earning an average of $1,652 in 30 theaters. LBJ was just behind with an average of $1,517 in 659 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • It took more than three months, but Columbus finally got to $1 million over the weekend. That’s as far as it will go.
  • LBJ opened with an estimated $1 million, so it reached that milestone.
  • Goodbye, Christopher Robin hit $1 million over the weekend, but it will start losing theaters soon.
  • Let There Be Light got to $2 million before the weekend and $3 million and $4 million over the weekend.
