Theater Averages: Flower Doesn’t Smell as Sweet as Stalin

March 20, 2018

Flower

The Death of Stalin remained in first place on the theater average chart with an average of $16,791 in 32 theaters, while Flower was right behind with an average of $16,306 in 3 theaters. Keep the Change did really well for a rom com with $12,445 in its lone theater. I Can Only Imagine opened semi-wide managing an average of $10,507.

None of the rest of the new limited releases came close to the $10,000 mark. Journey’s End was the closest with an average of $6,350 in two theaters, while Eight Hours Don’t Make a Day was relatively close behind with $5,880 in its one theater. The Happys and Ramen Heads were neck-and-neck with averages of $3,854 and $3,543 respectively. 7 Days in Entebbe missed the Mendoza Line with an average of just $1,901. 12 Days missed the Mendoza Line by a huge margin with $923 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • 7 Days in Entebbe opened nationwide earning over $1 million in the process. It will get to $2 million, but $3 million might be out of reach.
  • Thoroughbreds made it to $2 million during its second weekend of release. However, its theater average is low enough that it likely won’t get to $3 million.
