International Box Office: Fallen Kingdom Falls compared to Jurassic World

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened in first place on the international chart with $150.9 million in 48 markets. The film’s biggest market was South Korea, where it set the opening day record with $9.7 million, but its overall weekend was not quite as impressive, as it earned $15.17 million for a total opening of $26.57 million. That three-day total is better than Jurassic World, but its a drop from the opening day to its weekend total. This could be a sign of weak word-of-mouth and that’s troubling as its reviews have slipped below the overall positive level. The film also cracked $10 million in both the U.K. ($19.20 million in 662 theaters) and in France ($10.91 million in 700), but this is lower than the predecessor managed in both those markets. Overall, the film will have little trouble earning $1 billion worldwide, but it very likely won’t live up to Jurassic World.

Deadpool 2 was pushed into second place with $18.51 million in 79 markets for totals $376.59 million internationally and $655.76 million worldwide. It has run out of markets to open in, but it should stick around long enough to get to $700 million worldwide.

Ocean’s 8 opened in third place with $12.5 million on 3,880 screens in 16 markets. Its best market was Australia, where it earned first place with $4.22 million on 488 screens, which is a little better than its opening here, given the size of the two markets. The film also opened with more than $1 million in Mexico ($2.5 million on 1,249 screens) and in Brazil ($1.7 million on 653).

Solo: A Star Wars Story was next with $11.3 million in 54 markets for totals of $$136.1 million internationally and $312.2 million worldwide.

Avengers: Infinity War rounded out the top five with $10.9 million in 51 markets for totals of $1.343 billion internationally and $1.998 billion worldwide, as of end of business on Sunday. It hit $2 billion on Monday, just the 48th day of its release. It still has a slim chance at overtaking The Force Awakens for third place on that chart.
