International Box Office: Can None stop The Nun?

For the fourth weekend in a row, The Nun earned first place on the international chart. This past weekend, the film earned $16.4 million on 9,490 screens in 80 markets for totals of $220.2 million internationally and $329.2 million worldwide. There were no new markets this weekend, which explains the sharp decline from last week’s haul. That said, it remained in first place in France with $2.4 million on 367 screens for a two-week total of $7.6 million. The film is now the biggest hit in the franchise, both internationally and worldwide.
Johnny English Strikes Again climbed a spot to second place with $15.5 million in 41 markets for an international total of $45.8 million. This week’s big market was Indonesia, where the film earned $2.53 million in 300 theaters. Apparently Rowan Atkinson is very popular in Indonesia. The film opens in its native U.K. this coming weekend and that should help it remain potent on the international box office chart.
Smallfoot opened in third place with $14 million on 7,800 screens in 49 markets over the weekend for an early total of $15.5 million. The film’s biggest new opening came from Mexico, where it earned first place with $3.5 million on 2,175 screens. Its biggest holdover was in Australia, with $1.4 million on 305 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $3.1 million.
Incredibles 2 rose to fourth place with $11.9 million in 21 markets for totals of $603.3 million internationally and $1.210 billion worldwide. The film’s final opening was in Germany, where it had a four-day debut of $5.7 million. Incredibles 2 is about to overtake Iron Man 3 on the all-time global chart and if it has long legs, it could catch up to The Fate of the Furious as well.
The House with a Clock in its Wall entered the top five for the first time with $10.8 million in 23 markets for an international total of $22.5 million. The film had a pair of second place openings in Russia ($1.87 million in 1157 theaters) and France ($1.68 million in 345).
